Thirst ⧸ Verse 337

Well therefore say I unto you,
You who are gathered here,
Dig up the root of Thirst,
As he who wants the scented root
Digs up the kuss-kuss grass,
Lest the Tempter crush you again and again,
As the river the reed.
English translation by Albert Edmunds, from Hymns of the Faith (Dhammapada) (1902).
