Adam’s social protocols and imperatives
(Before I start, I just have to say: wow that sure is a fancy page title. Kinda feels way too serious, but I’m just going to leave it alone.)
I consider myself a fairly sociable person, though not entirely social.
I socialize almost exclusively online. In-person stuff is generally not my thing. I don’t want to go out, and I’d really prefer not to visit. It’s not you, it’s me!
On the internet, I enjoy real-time chatting (IRC, Discord, etc.), some less-real-time stuff (like Mastodon), and occasional forum stuff. I’ve always been more of a chatter than a forum person though.
When we’re chatting, I love to learn new things (especially about language, culture, and interesting occupations). I don’t mind talking about current events or even touchy subjects like politics. Sometimes I like to express an opinion about something; I’m 100% OK with you disagreeing with my opinion, but I tend to get annoyed when told that my opinion is wrong. (It’s an opinion, after all.)
I’m working on trying to argue less. If you catch me going back and forth with you about something, feel free to send me to this page and pester me accordingly. If you feel like I’m ignoring something that you said, maybe consider congratulating me.
